did CZ ever make a short action suitable for the 308 class of cartridges, I know all about the 527, but was there anything in between the 550 and the 527??

I don't think that they have made a true short action. I think that their 550 rifles in 308 based cartridges are 06' length. The Montana 1999 action is used for the Win Short Mag cartridges. Called the CZ Model 3. They contracted Montana to build them as well. All made in USA. The 1999 is Model 70/Mauser Hybred. I have no experience with them, but I hear they are a solid action, but just a little rough around the edges. I've handled a couple in stores. The bolt stop is interesting. Can't decide if I like it or not.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Yes they did, its a ZKK 601, the 600 was 06 length and the 602 was 3.6"

The current 550's are the same length, the 308 class version have a clip and different bottom metal to make it all fit. But the action length is the same.

I do know the CZ model 3 has been discontinued, It must have flopped, seems motana couldn't deliver the actions, too badd it was a great concept

I thought the zkk601 might be the 308 class action, saw some on gunsamerica but from the pics it was hard to tell just how long the action was

so next question where the zkk 601 rifles any good?? what kind of reputation did they have, and any guess on why cz doesn't make them again

I think better than the current production 550's. Why aren't they made anymore? They were manufactured for years up till the early 1990's. They had some quirky features like the safety that wasn't going to go over big and CZ was looking to get into the US market. I suspect they might have been getting costly to maufacture, or the toolng was getting worn out and it was time to upgrade, or a combination of all three.

They are nice little rifles, I don't mind the safety at all, and they can be changed if you just can't adjust.

There are some on Thad Scott fine guns. These aren't in the same class as a ZG's, more utility all around but good rifles none the less.

I own both so my opinion is in a side by side comparison and shooting both rifles ( my ZKK is a 600 though ).
