Guys, if you wanted to build a .318 WR on a military 98 action, what action would you look for? I realize the 1909 Argentine would likely top the list, but after that, what would you seek out and why? I'd like to find an action to stash for this project. I've had two rifles done on VZ-24s and know them to be a good choice.

That's easy for me, Mauser Banner of some sort with the larger Banner on the front ring; second/but/equal choice would be an Oberndorf-marked front ring with no Banner but large Oberndorf lettering. Both are a lot less common than the Argie but IMO both come with a LOT better braggin' rights. JMOFWIW.
Regards, Joe

Jeffe: I think I mentioned it another thread, but why oh why didn't I buy a half-dozen VZ-24s when Big 5 had them for $89!

I did, and then some. Shoulda bought 3 dozen, lol. They don't last long when you're always building something on one.

Yeah, that's when I bought mine. They had them on sale several times at that price or darn close. I'd try to pick four or five clean ones out of their inventory.
