Does anyone know if the barrel threads on a new CZ-550 safari mag is the same as a FN Mauser?

though it escapes me this second, the cz shank is different, the thread is a different pitch and is metric...

in other word, NO..

Cowboy, you can't "crush" fit different threads, you can only lap them into a "third" thread pitch, which will be neither fish nor fowl ... and will be weaker than either

What are they talking about HERE in the Brownells catalog? I have always been confused on this subject. I was going to buy one of these one time but after reading this I thought you had to crush fit the barrel. Did I goof up?

Kind of interesting to me because the 505 Gibbs barrel I got from Frank Wells was originally installed on a real Brevex and when I got it, it would screw into the CZ 550 I bought from you. I think it is a case where the two systems are so close (in this particular instance) as to be interchangeable. Like a 1/2 socket and a 13 MM: not perfect, but workable.

aH....

that explains it.. .002"crush" means tighten the @#$@#$ out of it... or something like 80lb-ft .. or...
if your headspace gage will BARELY close on it, if you smash it down enough, it wont...

I am NOT a fan of "Crush fit" to actions... it's a good way to warp actions...

but, all crush fit (action warping and barrel torquing) require the correct thread fitting (class 1, class 2, 3, etc) to work....

the "real" idea behind crush fit is that you will have more threads and more surface area of the threads engaged in the bond... ah, no.

I still can't get my pea brain wrapped around this. You screw it in until you crush it? I don't understand.

Well, it could be that Frank was mixed up about which gun he threaded it for. Unfortunately for me, I don't have a Brevex laying around to check. CRYBABY
