Grip safety? Barrel link? I read of 1911 style or 1911 type guns and have never been sure of the defining characteristics of a 1911.
Thanks, Peter.

she does a pretty good job.

Thanks for the link. I've owned andr/or shot a 1911 for over 30 years and enjoyed her videos on them.

As usual just my $.02

I use the hell out of Youtube for learning. Midway USA has an entire series of videos (like 150 or so) on all sorts of gunsmithing DIY stuff. You can also watch someone take apart and reassemble just about any make or model gun you can think of just by doing a quick search. I'm a visual learner, and watching someone else do it first ensures a lot less frustration for myself. my$.02.

youtube does not work really well here with our slow dialup, but, bascially a 1911 has a straight mainspring housing and the 1911a1, circa 1923, has an arched main spring housing a wider trigger and the back projection of the grip safety was made longer
