I would like to use a CRF action. My budget does not alow a Granite Moutain action, I need to keep the cost under $1000 max, under $600 would be better.

would you buy a M-70 CRF action for $600?

They're not really hard to find.....at least so far!!!

Yes...one does need to lengthen the stroke of the standard length action a bit but that's not that difficult.

Take a look at new today on Guns America. There is a model 70 pre 64 magnum action for $750. It is a 1949 date. I think that is a pretty fair price.

Or try a model of 1917 that was already sporterized for around $400 and go that route.

Start with a CZ 550 in 458 lott, $800
add a 3 position safety and Weisner's floorplate.

You get the barrel, with decent sights, for that price. While i've seen CZ's that won't shoot minute of grapefruit, the rule tends to be that they are good shooting barrels.

Trim the barrel to 24", and change the recoil lug to fixed, rather than a sliding one.

This will put you, assuming you budgeted $600 for the action, at about 1400 (including rebluing later) for barrel, action, sights, safety, and bottom metal.

Best of all, you can be shooting the lott on day one.

Restock it, checker, and you are pretty much complete.

You can get a MRC barrelled action in 458 Lott for $800. Likely a better chance of getting a shooter than going with the CZ and it comes with a 3 pos. safety standard. The 99 is a good action for a big bore like this in my opinion....
