Ruger 3 Position Safety Problem

I have a Ruger 77 MKII with the 3 position safety. While the safety is in the full safe (full rear) position, the bolt can cycle up but not back. I thought it shouldn't even cycle up.

Is there a broken pin somewhere?

How hard is it to fix?

Thanks guys.

"it can't" ?
its a single piece that controls the up and down movement ... there's a pin, a dovetail/slide and the rotating dsafety lever that blocks the trigger and the bolt ..

its 5 mins to replace, ruger would probably like to have it back to see this failure mode

Jeff,
Thanks for the advice. So I need to send it to Ruger? It only takes 5 minutes to fix? Can a local gunsmith do this work?

It is marked as a "must be fitted" part on the Ruger site.

Great info guys!! Thanks. I will order the part and take it to a gunsmith to make sure I didn't screw it up Smiler That way I can learn a little while he checks my work.
