I believe someone is talking about a rifle built by Carlie Coffin out of Odessa, Texas. If they are referring to a plate, they are referring to a floor plate. Not easy to find with a search because of the use of the word 'Coffin' and 'plate'.

Like this: extra magazine capacity without needing a new stock for drop box bottom metal.

Is this what you seek? If you need it for a long-legged mag spring, it appears it could be milled out.

No one in the industry ever called them coffin plates. Maybe drop box.

Picture reference. I hope the person doesn't mind. I uploaded this from his webpage on which it was referred to as a coffin floorplate.

Ok, one guy called it a coffin in the entire history of rifle building.

The OP did not tell us what action, and what caliber of custom trigger guard he was looking for.

I only know of one maker who called those deep floor plates " coffin ", sadly he is not making trigger guards any more

For over 40 years I have called those type of floor plates, "Pocket Floor Plates" on any of the trigger guards I have made, or rebuilt.

Am currently making a pocket floor plate to fit a Mauser standard depth trigger guard to gain that last 1/2 of a magnum cartridge, for a customer.
When done it will allow a standard depth trigger guard to hold 4 magnum cartridges in the magazine, but still retain the normal stock side profile.
Yes the pocket floor plates are deeper in the side profile, that is the trade off for that extra cartridge.

Although "Coffin Lid" floor plate is a more catchy name. Maybe we should all start using that term...

I bought one of these. Perfect fit on a DWM 98, no mods necessary.

Yeah, I bought one too and it came in just before Christmas. You are indeed correct. Well made and a good fit. No need to mill out for the spring as the leg curves right over it into its mortise.
