restoreing a GI 8m/m mauser, and want to replace barrel,so I can shoot it. present barrel is shotout. barrels I'v tryed, sofar are not pulling up right to get head space correct. what do I need to do to get a barrel to work? hate to put in lathe and go to setting back,as this makes shorter, but is this only way? I have done plenty of new barrel work, but this is my first restoreration
thank you for your help

Capt.Parker,

The amount of set back required should be so small as to not be noticable.

Headspace is long?? Try releiving the shoulder. You can pene the threads to increase draw. Carefull, it won't take much. Also find a supply of bolts, swap bolts.

Headspace short?? Releive the boltface.
