Tone, Savage magazine boxes are designed to be held in their slots by spring tension from the box. Place one end in the slot with the other end lying on the receiver, take a piece of hardwood shaped like a screwdriver (one leg of a wooden clothes pin works) place it just above the lip and hit it with a hammer or leather mallet, it will pop right in the slot.
