For a large ring mauser, is it really just a matter of reaming out the chamber and opening the boltface a little to convert a 9.3x57 to 9.3x62?

If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

Just a simple rechamber no need to open the bolt face. Make certain the mag box is long enough.

Don't think that because a 30-06 will not clean up a 308 chamber.

In your case the 9.3x62 will clean the chamber up just fine. Like was stated check your mag length.

This is the main consideration here.

What gun are you going to convert?

maybe im in the minority but i wouldnt want to wreck any value by rechambering a collectable rifle.

Perhaps there is more value to having a cartridge that does the job you want it to?

What to do if the magazine box is too short?

Depends on how much to short. If just a little then file off metal in the front and back of the box. If you need more then you can cut the front out and reattach it with a spacer. Then remove a little metal from the feed ramp to match the box. Might need to do this if you just file the box. I think the normal COL for a 9.3x57 is 3.180 for the 9.3X62 is 3.29. But if you can seat the bullet out further (depending on your reamer and bullet selection) you pick up net case capacity.
