Export of barrels from USA ...

Guys,
Why does the US State Dept throw a hissy fit over 'chambered and threaded' barrels?

They will gladly allow export (with correct paperwork) of chambered barrels and barrel blanks ... but not threaded.

Yet they merrily allow Savage pre-fit chambered/threaded barrels to be exported.

In declaring 'chambered and threaded' do they believe its the muzzle that's threaded for a suppressor?
Cheers...
Con

Con, I think it is just "Red Tape", from a bunch of gov't a**holes.

Might be simpler to just have a blank chambered and threaded "down under".

Keith,
Indeed ... but a mate has placed a group order for about 22 barrels, some are chambered/threaded. Manufacturer reckons they may get some grief because they're threaded. We're trying to determine whether they think they're threaded for silencers?
Cheers...

Don't you know the govt's reducing the competition in firearms/parts and components sales.......only the govt will be allowed to carry out the export and sale of firearms parts and components in the future.....after all it's not the single sale of a barrel or action or 1000 projectiles or a couple of triggers that will arm the terrorists......Kiwi

Dumb question, but do they state in the regulations that they require you to state whether or not it is threaded?

In fact, the US state department requires special export permits for the export of barrel blanks as well as pre-fitted barrels. The bureaucrats in Washington also regulate the sale and export of riflescopes, iron sights, scope mounts, recoil pads and a host of other "gun parts". Not only do they require that the export have the necessary license and apply for the proper permits for each order, they also require that the exporter insure that the producer of the parts is registered with the State Department. Free enterprise, my ass!
I would wager that most elected officials are not even aware of this interference with legitimate business. Regards, Bill.

Is actually:

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

You do not want to get caught violating this one!
