This is the first shotgun I've restocked. It's a Meriden Firearms Long Tom manufactured in 1916 with a full choked 36" barrel. Pheasants beware, this will hit them "way out there." A couple before/after pics. Yes, I am perfectly aware the wood is worth much more than the gun itself but it's a family heirloom with some history and I treated it as such. Besides, I'd rather start with a simple gun vs. a more complicated design because I am still learning (and this project still threw me some serious curveballs). I replicated the original stock with some slight tweaks and same goes for the checkering (which was also my first "real" checkering job). Here's a close-up of the stock set (before some final touches). I finished it with spar urethane and Tru-Oil and did many hand-rubbed coats. A goal was to keep power tool usage to a minimum so the only ones I used were a bandsaw, drill press, and router table to get the shape and inletting started. I started a thread on laying out the blank here- http://forums.accuratereloadin...571081651#8571081651 Hope ya like it! Very nice. With that much drop at the heal I'd bet it's not "pleasant" to shoot, but it sure looks good. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

Wow. If that was your first real checkering job, I can't wait to see your next. Nice gun. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Thanks for the nice comments fellas!
It's actually not that bad. The 1" Decelerator pad helps quite a bit. That being said, I would draw the dimensions differently if I did it again. Also... any contructive feedback is much appreciated. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
