333_OKHI will look into it. I have that somewhere. I think the 30'03 [not the '06] with its 220 grain round nose was the longest that would fit, but I need to check.
I like your quote. It makes me happy with my two stalks in the last two years within 30 yards of nice, large Columbian black-tailed deer. One of them was over 130 pounds after hanging for a day (no hide, no head, no horns, no feet, no internals).

333_OKHWell this rifle was chambered in the 30'03, three years before the government modified the '03 to make the 30'06. The '03 version is even longer than the current 30'06. This fit in the 1895 with its long 220 grain round nose ball rounds.
There are a few gunsmiths out there that work
heavily with these rifles. You may try contacting on of them.
That might help. I foundthat Hamilton Bowen and also Z-HAT do custom work on these guns sometimes.
