Interested in methods of attaching a barrel band before bluing. I had considered silver soldering (force 44) but the fellow who will be doing the bluing indicates that he would not be comfortable with anything other than brazed/silver brazed. Because of the heat required I am unwilling to use that option. Also considering drilling the band and barrel for a cross pin. Any thoughts or tried-and-true methods would be appreciated.

Acraglass (epoxy) works well.

Use your solder and send the rifle to a gunsmith that does a quality rust blue. No worries then. Roger Kehr Kehr Engraving Company (360)456-0831

there are low temp silver solders which will go through the caustic blue OK. by all means don't cross pin the barrel

Chic, I think the Acraglass would come loose with the heat from the blueing. I have used force 44 solder many many times and it will not be affected by the blueing salts or heat. Just make sure you flux it well and get a good flow. I agree, silver solder is way too much heat. I haven't used it on a gun in years, maybe a Reimington 700 bolt handle and some carbide inserts for a boring bar.
