I have a P-14 enfield action a customer brought in for bedding. His previous attempt at bedding the rifle has the threads in the action pulled out. From my measurements it appears to be a 1/4-30 screw. Can anyone confirm this for me before I shell out the bucks for a custom tap.

That’s what they are...1/4-30 TPI. Both M1917 and P14’s use the same screw.

How do you pull the threads out of the action?

Was a gorilla turning the screwdriver?

No it was bedded badly sitting up on the barrel with only 3 or 4 threads holding on a 458 win mag. It pulled loose under recoil and out they came. Or at least that's best I can figure.

Enfields, like Springfields, have true 90 degree square threads in the receivers. ACME threads are a different pattern from true square threads, with square tops and bottoms but angled sides.
