Wondering what rules exist for swapping a pistol to a carbine? I am from Iowa and I have no idea what the rules are on something like that. I know we have to have at least 16" barrels here to hunt with. Wondering if a guy could pick up a contender pistol (old style) and convert it to carbine with a buttstock and 16" barrel? Been thinking of doing this for quite a while. Be a really small easy carrying, fast handling little gun. Thinking something like 256 Win Mag.

Always purchase a contender or encore as a handgun, as it can be legally stocked and barreled as a rifle. Taking a encore/contender that was sold as a rifle and putting on a pistol barrel and/or stock is verboten. Likewise a rifle stock and sub 16" barrel. Shows how silly the gun laws can be, but it is what it is. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

P.O.I. All the Contenders and Encores are sold as Pistols regardless of what it is configured at when you buy them. ![]()
