Gents: I know some folks build scope bases. Would it be any trick to design one with a ZKK-ish integral pop up peep sight which would be adjusted for the user? and yes, I am aware NECG makes some that can be stored and installed quickly.

Kimber of Oregon did and Jim Brockman in Idaho does make such a rig, I have a few mounted on divers P-64 Mod. 70s.....never had to use one, tho'. I have seen pix of custom bases such as you want, Bollinger is one name that comes to mind. It is a very good idea and would be most useful on serious working/hunting rifles in remote and rugged regions, such as much of northern and western Canada; however, the influence on rifle design by "dudes" such as JO'C and Weatherby is still very strong and the cost factor is an issue, as well. My bud and I do a lot of different things to get a "ghost and post" on QD mounts for our various rifles. It's a real pita, but, worth the aggro if you pack only one rifle into a remote camp or backpack hunt.

BSA on their converted P'14 rifles marketed in 33 BSA and 26 BSA actually DID have not one but two flip-up peep sights in the "duck pond" on their rifles. However I expect that it was too costly to keep the idea on for the later P'14 conversions that they made under the Model E and Model D designation. Probably the easiest solution is an old Redfield base with the fold-down peepsight?

The folding peep on the Redfield base can be installed on other bases, D&T two holes.

Is there a reliable source for such animal? Seems like they're not too plentiful.

Ebay. I have already stockpiled a few. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

Guys I have installed Williams shotgun peeps on the rear of Leupold bases just behind the rear mount. I read this and it seems much easier. I looked on Gun Parts Corp site, and they have the peep part with screws new for $8.95. I ordered 10, and they are on the way. Might be wise to stock up.
