jeffe; define cheap.
Send Dave an e-mail http://www.kopjerifles.com
I think he may have something for you.
I am going to Cowra on the 18th for a final fitting and will meet up with your mate if you find something that you fancy.
Dave told me that he recently sent a few blanks over to the States for another bloke,so he is well versed if you decided to go that way.

This is quite interesting, could one of you gentlemen "down under" possibly post a list of the really good hunting rifle builders in Oz? We Canydeeyans actually have very few good riflemakers and the hassle getting an action into the USA now makes OZ an attractive option. Thanks for any links you can provide.

200 is for dry... 75 for wet...

Brian Harre of Auckland in New Zealand reportedly makes very fine Mauser 98 styled actions. They are not cheap but appear very high quality. I believe he trades under the "Harre" trademark.

I'm the bloke that David sent the wood to. Smiler
The wood he sent me was awesome, but as with all things in most cases you get what you pay for.
The wood is very hard with great figure/color & layout.
It's been air dried for over 20 years.

I've got a Pre-64 300 H&H that's slated for one of these blanks.

I told David what I was looking for & he was good enough to take the time to get it for me & ship it here to States.
You won't find a better person then David, he's as honest as the day is long & just a hell of a nice guy.
Not to many people would take the time to do what he did for a complete stranger half way around the world.
These best thing that came out of this besides the wood was that I now have a friend with a bloke in Australia Big Grin

I plan on visiting with him when the wife & I go to Australia next year.

Looking forward to it

Rodger Vardy in Victoria,Australia.has most of the best Australian walnut. All cut by himself from the tree, ideal for heavy calibre, because it is hard, dense, dry and very well aged. Holland & Holland buy wood from him but they wont tell you that. The guys from Granite Mountain Arms bought a beautiful matched pair from him at the 2005 SCI show.
