Gunsmiths, after purchasing a Remington CDL rifle in a 35 Whelen I’d like to have the barrel cut down between 18 ½ to 20 inches. The factory barrel comes 24 inches with 1 to 16 twist. I intend to hunt here in the thick woods of the North east (short ranges), and like shorter and lighter rifles and in general. Can you foresee any problems with having this done? Thanks in advance.

I had 4" chopped off my rem 7600 in 35whelen (not sure on the twist of that bbl) and at 18", I know it was pretty deadly at 220yards. A lesson in irony The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people. Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves." Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

No problem whatsoever. Should cost about $75 at most for cut an crown. Reinstalling sight would be a little more but not much. John Farner If you haven't, please join the NRA!

No problem other than alot more muzzle blast. With a 1-16 I would stay 225g or less. 250s may not stabilize.
