vinnygCutting down 35 Whelen barrel
Gunsmiths, after purchasing a Remington CDL rifle in a 35 Whelen I’d like to have the barrel cut down between 18 ½ to 20 inches.
The factory barrel comes 24 inches with 1 to 16 twist.
I intend to hunt here in the thick woods of the North east (short ranges), and like shorter and lighter rifles and in general.
Can you foresee any problems with having this done?
Thanks in advance.

Joel/AKI had 4" chopped off my rem 7600 in 35whelen (not sure on the twist of that bbl) and at 18", I know it was pretty deadly at 220yards.

Toomany ToolsNo problem whatsoever. Should cost about $75 at most for cut an crown. Reinstalling sight would be a little more but not much.
No problem other than alot more muzzle blast. With a 1-16 I would stay 225g or less. 250s may not stabilize.
