Removing bolt jeweling

I have a model 70 bolt that has some mediocre jeweling, and I’m thinking I would just rather have a polished bolt to match my polished stainless extractor.

Any reason to not take some 400 grit paper and remove the jeweling? I can’t imagine that would remove enough metal to cause any issues with fit.

Won't remove anything significant. I take the paper and back it with Duck Tape. Then use a shoeshine stroke.

Belt sander with scotchbrite belts; 1x42; I use the maroon belts and finish with blue. Yes, jeweling, or engine turning, is very thin/light, but is actually ground into the steel.
I don't think 800 grit will remove fly spit. And I don't mean spit. Couldn't resist.

Youcan get a better smoother action if you use hones according to Jack Hogue, and I found it true after his advise and questioning other well known
smiths..
