Well after at least two years I finally finished my 308 Norma. It started out as left over parts. I had a Daly bottom metal from my wifes rifle I built as a blind box. I had a MKX bolt in the drawer or about 20 years. Picked up a striped Daly action and a 30-06 24" light profile take off barrel. So new purchase was less than $90. Bought a discount(second?) stock from Great american. Only thing I did first class was had Kobe checker it. The blueing was supposed to be a bead blast but looks and feels more like a sand blast to me. But I can live with it. Took it to the range got it on paper and tried some loads. No barrel break in shot 6 different loads two different powders. Best was .75" worst 1.5 and two others MOA. While not to the class of many I've seen posted I'm happy with it. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Nice. Why was that stock a second? Was the inletting bad? Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Paul, that's a really good looking bucket of parts. It belongs in the "Truck-Gun Hall of Fame". If you don't like the finish, you can always have it redone later. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

Yep. I had one done by Toomany Tools that I like a lot better. I'll probably send this one and a 25-06 that has the same finish on it to him after the first of the year to be redone. Thanks guys for your comments. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Looks just fine to this old truck driver, I would have left it as an 06, but other than that its real nice...tj3006 freedom1st

Yep many would. Several issues that kept me from doing it. The bolt I had was a magnum face, the 06 barrel would not have headsapced correctly anyway. I had found a set of used 308 Norma dies on ebay for next to nothing. I already had a 30-06 and have a 358 Norma that needed a brother Last but not least I like to be different which is why I have a 308 Norma instead of a 300wmag. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

That's pretty nice. I've been saying for years you can get some nice stuff at GAG every now and then. Why a Norma over a WinMag? Just curious. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Terry No reasons that any sense to most people. Years ago I hunted with a guy that had a 30-338 I had shot it and liked it. I actually have dies and load 300Wmag for two of my non reloading hunting buddies. I never really fell in love with the 300Wmag. Can't argue with the function just didn't really like the look. Short neck for one. Also my memory told me the 30-338 would do basically the same and I remembered less blast. Several years ago I picked up a 358Norma Mannlicher. Why? It was different. After that I kept looking for a 308Norma to sit next to it in the safe. Never found one that I liked. So one day I was going through the drawer looking for something and saw the magnum bolt. Put the rest together and this is what I got. I will be the first to say the 308Norma will not do anything the 300wmag won't do. Yes loaded to the max the 300wmag should give a little more velocity. Like I said above I prefer to be different. If every one at the camp has a 300W I'll bring a 308N. You must remember you are talking to a guy that has used his 280 based wildcat for just about everything up to and including a 411 & 416. Main reasons were because I could and they make a heck of a campfire discussion. If push comes to shove I could always open it up to 300wmag. I have been lucky with GAG I've bought 4 or 5 from their budget list. One I did need to fix the inletting on the guard. One side of the front tang owas off 1/16" a little stained epoxy and a marker to add a little gain. Only I can see it. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Congratulations Paul! Nice looking rifle. Your 308 Norma Mag is very close to my 300 Apex. Perhaps we will meet some day out at the range? Do you belong to Bayou Rifles? Rusty We Band of Brothers!
