Came across a 98 action with the following;

LargefrontRing(1.41"),but unusually long at 1.850"
Loadport length about 2.870".
RearRing length about 1.30"
Magbox length 3.310", (Feedramp length and rear seems original and unaltered).
Bolt is shorter than std98.
Std98 shroud.
Straight bolt handle
Small vertical radiused notch at rear of front reciever ring.

Reciever stamped 1939 across ontop.

I was thinking it was a Peruvian Intermediate, but although peruvans have longer front rings than a std98, I did not think they were that long.Same goes for the what seems unaltered but unusually long magbox at 3.310"

Any Ideas what it may be?

This is a Peruvian in original condition as they were issued. They don't get much nicer than this one. I picked it up at a local gun show about 25 years ago for $65.00 Big Grin Did that make my day or what! Big Grin

Sounds like you have a 1903 Turk. There's lots of them floating around right now. Does it have a moon with a star over it on the receiver ring and say Ankara? If it does, it's a Turk.

Rojelio,

Had closer look today, and yes it does have those stampings. asked someone who was there and they said Turkish also. Thanks!

DHumbarger,

Very nice find.. For interests sake,Can you measure the actions magbox port,I would like to see how it compares to the Turk. I was surprised at the Turks length.

The Turk's mag box started out the same as the Peruvian. The feed ramp and mag box have been modified. Look closely at the front of the magbox and you will see that an extension was brazed on. Usually the Turk only measures about 3.230" or so. I believe the Peruvian is closer to 3.100" as was the Turk.

What do you call a nice profit? You probably know the bolts VERY RARELY match on the Peruvians. The reason is that the bolts were seperated from the rifles in the arsnels in case of the ocassional coup da ta (sp?) Mine is no exception. The bold does not match the rifle but does match itself.

Forgive my dirty little mind, Doug-

But my suspicion was that Forrest probably didn't much care about the s/n on the bolt handle.

LOL.

I would just hate for such a nice example like this one to get cut up.
