Fellows. I'll be in the market for a blank, soon I hope. I know about Luxus, and found a couple others in a search, but would like to have some recommendations from folks in the know. This will be for a 1910 Mexican Mauser action, built on the lines and ideas of the early 1900's Hollands and Rigbys. Not looking exhibition grade wood, but better than saw lumber. Forrest had Duane build a 416 a year or so ago that was along the lines of the figre I'm looking for. Thanks for the help guys, David Walker

hunterbid.com Look around and compare. Hunterbid has amazing turkish walnut. For the price you won't find much better. There are some that are loyal to Luxus, but compare prices with HB and spend your money where you will.............. If you're doing the work yourself, then it might make financial sense to skimp on blank costs, but if you're paying someone to make a stock for you, I think you're being pennywise and pound foolish to buy less than a very good blank that will suit your fancy. A couple of hundred more dollars put into the blank can really improve the look of the finished stock. Nothing wrong with shopping around and comparing prices, but my advice is don't "settle" just because it's a little cheaper. Sometimes there are some smoking deals here on AR. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I've bought several nice pieces of wood right here on the classifieds. Stock blanks come up for sale once/ twice a week or so. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Mike, I really like the stock on your 9.3 that Duane built for you a short while back. I might go just a touch fancier, but not much. That "working rifle" not "best" is what I'm looking for as well. Also like those claws on yours, but Roger also does a nice job with square bridges on these little actions. Thanks all. I know very little about selecting blanks, so will be asking more questions soon. David

Good wood is where you find it. That said I've bought a few from these folks and really like them. They are easy to do business with and you don't have to worry about the wood being wet or the pictures photoshopped. I have been very happy with the wood that I have purchased from Roger Vardy in Australia. Duane and James Anderson really like the way his wood works. Butch

I just spent a considerable amount of time looking at quite a few blanks that Stephen Heilmann brought to the ACCG show. If you want nice wood, make sure and also check out what he has to offer.
