.458 Lott CZ 550 vs. After Market Parts

When looking for parts, i.e. stock, mounts, peep sights, I can never find CZ 550 listed.

Which Mauser designation most aptly fits this rifle?

I just ordered a cheap synthetic stock, CoreLite Stock Mauser 98 for large ring with a F34 Barrel. Midway said it would fit the CZ 550, but why isn't this in the descriptions?

Will it fit at all? Will I have to shave this much for a .458 Lott?

Do you have to glass bed a synthetic stock?

NECG has three different peep sights listed for big bores. I know it's not the Ruger, but does the Weaver fit on the CZ 550?

Or is the 550 in need of custom fitting for this sight?

Are the front sight dove tails the same for all models?

Thanks for all your help

You could also just add cross bolts for and aft the mag box and have it bedded if that stock does not fit, I had that done to my cz .458 winnie reamed out to lott. I also like to use warne or talley mounts and the scope I have on mine is a leupold 2.5x compact in the warne qd mounts. I added a barrel band and had the forend swivel hole plugged with buff horn, comes up nice and swings like an english shot gun Big Grin

the cz peep sight is the NECG ruger.. call em and ask, drill one hole, done
whoever told you a 98 stock would fit a cz is on drugs... at the second they told you, and probably habitual.

mcmillan makes a synth stock

no one makes a drop in trigger, that i am aware of

the front sight can use the necg insert, but you are going to cut the tail of it off, and drill the lock hole

Jeff,

Does this mean that the CZ550 is more of Ruger copy than a Mauser copy?

I guess the guy at Midway wasn't familiar with the difference.

To make my life easier, should I order for a Ruger when CZ parts aren't avaiable?

Maybe they'll pay for the return shipping.

Thanks for your help Guys

minkman,
the cz is a totally different creature then the 98 or the ruger.

it just so happens that the ruger rear peep will work with a cz.

the stock WILL NOT FIT from a 98 to a cz... minimal alterations my eye... i would be calling midway and canceling the order, and demand that they pay shipping, as the csr told you it would fit...

the rep may have heard VZ not CZ... and of course a vz will fit a 98 stock.

ed at ahr has a trigger, i know nothing about it.

I suppose you know that MacMillan makes stocks for the CZ550 (and I have one for mine). As for other parts you are right, not many have jumped in to produce parts that adapt to it. I believe Jim Brockman can put a three-position Winchester style safety on it (part made by Jim Wisner) but I don't see any common suppliers listing it in their catalog. I have contacted NECG about sights and they say they are working on it but at this point they recommend do-it-yourself modifications of some of their front sights, but nothing for the rear sight. If you find anything interesting make sure to post it.

MM,
300 is about what it's going to cost for a cz stock.. wood, synth (it's a steal for a synth) or what not

Wow, it went for $330, that is CHEAP. A low quality synthetic is not a place to try and save money IMO.
