Are parts on a 1910 Mexican Mauser interchangeable with the full size 98? I would like to replace the bolt shroud with a Dakota 3-position and the the trigger with a Timney or Bold. The Bolt shroud looks the same but I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Terry

Jeffe,
The 96 will work as will the swedish hinged bottom metal I picked up in Yakima for $5 a few years ago. Is the bolt stop the same? I just got in from chasing quail in knee deep snow and I am too tired to go look, this assigment is up to you. As usual if you are captured, the Mission Impossible staff will disavow any knowledge or connection with you and you will be SOL.

Chic,
I've used 98 boltstops on mexicans, 10s and 36s, with little trouble... I haven't tried a 96, iirc, the stop is actually SHORTER on a 96, which means your throw would be longer on a 98... i THINK

grrrr... i just walked back in from the shop.. i'll check tomorrow

Hey Pfiefer, as the Mex actions (at least these ones we're alking about, there are others) are intermediate in length, I would start looking there. Maybe a Yugo extractor will work, I haven't tried one yet. - dan

Check with Stuart Satterlee. stujac@hills.net I'm pretty sure he makes extractors for Granite and for others. The Mex extractor is a very different animal than the other 98 extractors.

The bolt stop from a Swede will fit after you modify the spring. The rear part of the spring on the swede is wider and will not allow the bolt stop to pivot forward all the way.
I measured some sewde bolt stops vs 98 stops and found only about .005 difference in them regarding the length.

The sleeve from a 98 will also fit the Mexican.

The cocking piece from a 98 will fit the 1910 but not the 1936 Mexican. The cocking nose is differnt.

The firing pin from a 98 intermediate cam be fitted to a Mexican. The tip is longer on the 98.

The bolt from a 98 intermediate can be modified to fit a mexican. The bolt face recess and the length of the bolt head is different, thus the different extractor.

I currently have 16 new production Mexican extractors left over from the last batch I did several years ago.
