I have a brown (nutmeg)laminated stock with a 1-1/4" x 3/4" gouge out of it. The stock is spotless but for this damage. Looks to be 1/4" deep in the forward grip area on the side. Anyone had to repair one? Thanks

If it is a commercial brand like Richards Microfit, call and ask for some cut off pieces. Mortise the damaged area in the form of a long oval. Cut a patch and glue it in with the laminate layers at the same depth. This should give you a matching pattern when you shape it. Another option is to fashion matching grip patches on both sides as inserts. You could also fill the area with a an epoxy wood patch. Shape and seal with lacquer. Then faux grain the patch with acrylic color. Topcoat with lacquer.
