Well I dropped my Bastogne blank at Ed Shulin's in Trinidad on a Friday. Picked it up one week later on my return trip to Houston. While I would call it about 95% it is super dense. With a 14"LOP the blank weighs 3.75#. (yes it is dry)I bet finished weight will still be over 3#

So now I have a super heavy classic sporter stock and a 06 length MKX action. What should I build? A 9.3X62 keeps calling to me.

As usual just my $.02

Not only is it "what should I build" but also, how should I build it.

You have told us about the stock.

Now tell us what you are going to do to that Mark X to make it nice. Blackburn bottom metal? 3 position safety? New bolt knob with 4 panel checkering? custom scope bases? Maybe even custom Rings? Open up the sear slot? Checker a pad on the bolt release?

What barrel are you goona use? OPen Sights?

9.3x64 for that heavy stock. The 9.3x62 should be light weight since it is such a mild cartridge, lol.

LOL

Haven't gotten that far. I do have a 3 position safety that will go on it. Unlike many people I like the handle on the MKX. That way it is in the same spot as 90% of my other rifles. Remove the tab and checker the front of the release. Yep. Open the sear slot??? Confused Open sights more than likely.

I have one of those. The bottom metal on mine is great. The trigger sucks. If you build a 9.3x64, write it up. I am considering that for one of my 98 actions, probably a Husky! Good luck.

Other than the bolt face what else would be needed to fit an AR in a MKX

Ramrod

Opening the Sear slot.

If you look at a Pre 64 Model 70 you will see that at the very tail end, just above the screw hole for the rear action screw, the slot that the cocking piece rides in and that the sear sticks out of is strait for most of its travel except at the very end where it widens out. That is so that the cocking piece doesn't hit it way out there but rather travels smoothly in its entire path.

You can do the same thing to a mauser.
