Holy long buttstocks! I wonder if it's been restocked? Nifty looking piece, begging for rebarreling to something bigger. Mingo, did you ever buy your friends Enfield? Todd

Mingo, There is also the ultimate of the Remington development of the Model 30 for sale on the same site: a Model 720 Remington. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=3717634 The price is in line for what I see them selling for, when I see them. There are some details on the Remington site. http://www.remington.com/aboutus/history/m720.htm jim dodd

Todd, No, the deal did not work out for my friend's 500 A-Square P-14 unfortunately. He wanted too much for the rifle and I will need to spend quite a bit to get to the point where I want it to be. Thanks! Jim, Thanks for the info. I did not know model 720 was similar to model 30. This particular specimen must be one one awesome rifle. Now this is something I would pay to own one. Remington's history site did not have much detail info in regards to the action. I wonder how much difference between the model 30 and model 720. Thanks!

Mingo, The Rem 720 was a refinement of the Model 30. I handled and shot some back in my military match shooting days; these were all Secretary of the Navy award rifles in .30-'06. There is quite a bit of detail on them in Otteson's The Bolt Action Rifle, and a few pages on the 30, 30S and 720 in de Haas' Bolt Action Rifles. Now if Remington wants to return to yesteryear, they should bring back the 720 -- with some design refinement it could compete head to head with the M70. I expect Big Green could apply their modern manufacturing methods so they could make money on it. They reportedly did not on the 30 or 720. That would give them a line of CRF rifles. jim dodd

Mingo--- That looks to be a restocked P-17 with a 30S barrel. I've owned at least a dozen 30 and 30S Remingtons. If that's one I'll eat it with ketchup and crackers.

Ketchup and crackers make me puke, but I have to agree with JBelk.

KMule, Frank de Haas, Bolt Action Rifles, 3rd edition. You can get it from amazon.com for $12.50. The Otteson book has drawings of the actions, but no photos of the rifles. jim dodd

The auctionarms rifle is a Remington 30 that has been restocked. A barrel band stud was also added to the barrel. The incomplete Redfield receiver sight is probably not original (I believe all that came equiped with reciever sights were Lyman 48's). Also, the top of the receiver should not be tapped for scope bases. [ 01-02-2003, 06:33: Message edited by: fla3006 ]

I have a Enfield/Remington That looks like a model 720 shown in the Frank De Haas book. The bolt handle is exactly the same as a 720, It has a guide rib on the bolt and reciever like a 720. But it might be a costumized P17 . I dont know and havent found anyone that knows what it is. It has been polished and Reblued at one time , so there are no markings on the reciever. If think if Knowlegable person knew it was a 720 , they would tell me it wasnt and offer my $20.00 for it Rick [ 01-02-2003, 09:08: Message edited by: GSP7 ]
