Anybody know if the Remington 700 action is good to build on from say 308 right up to say a 30/378 or are there different action models for the bigger magnums? I am thinking about building a heavier magnum like a 30/378 or 416 Rigby but I don't know whether any 700 action will work or if I should be looking for a particular model? Thanks for any thoughts!

For either 378 or 416 Rigby based calibres forget the Rem 700. They are simply to big. Although if you only wanted single shot that would be different

Best cheaper options to kick off with would be either a CZ in 416 Rigby or Weatherby Synthetic in 30/378 or 338/378.

Also, Weatherbys in the smaller calibres like 300 Wby are quite easy to have converted to the 378 based calibres.

Sako makes an action that fits the 30/378 - the TRG I think.

500,

You are right. I think Savage chamber for the 308 Lazzeroni Warbird.

Remington offers rifles chambered in cartridges requiring bolt faces no larger than .532", including the line of Ultra Mags up to .375 UltraMag, as well as the belted .416 and .458 Magnums. I can't find anything from Remington with bolt faces that would accomodate the Rigby or .30/378 case heads.
