How to lighten the trigger on a Ruger SP101?

I have two of these. One is fine. The other's trigger is very heavy, which appears to be directly related to the tension of the coilspring. I want to lighten the trigger pull slightly.

Can this be accomplished by simply clipping a wee bit off of the coilspring?

Your best bet might be to get a reduced mainspring and rebound spring. I think WOLFF gunsprings should have just what you need. Brownell's would be a good place to start.

He's given good advice. Clipping coils is a last resort.

Once you've added the Wolff springs, flush the mechanism with carburator cleaner to be sure it is clean and not oily, then dust it liberally with moly-flour and dryfire for a while, holding the gun at different angles and positions. Do this where the dust falling from the gun will not wreck the carpet or your clothing. The moly-flour will slick it up quite a bit.
