I just looked at the auction again. What's this? I assume the action is cut in the back, but will it still extract cases like this? I would have thought a new longer one would have been installed. Is this common?

I noticed that before but assumed that if Mr. Miller made it that it functioned just fine.

Call me wierd but it's got to have a different shroud and safety to attract my money.....(which is not much these days)

My interest in this gun is the art work...it's simply superb.....but in all honesty the gun by Jim Kobe on another thread don't take any back seats to this one at all.

I would expect the action to work as smooth as can be made to.

Certainly not common. But like I said I think this rifle is at least 25 years old.

That style WAS the Style of David Miller for about 15 years before he started using Model 70 Classic Actions, which he in fact had a hand in designing. He used 1909 Argentines almost exclusively, and he had everyone annealed first, then worked on them, and then professionaly rehardened. With regard to the shroud and safety, David Miller was one of the pioneers in the two position safety. He was of the of the first to offer them to the trade.

That rifle will feed like greased lightning. I believe that if you went to The David Miller Company today and ordered one just like it you would probably have to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $25,000, and you would get your choice of wood, plus the barrel would be different and it would carry Blackburn bottom metal and also have a bit of engraving.

$6000 would be a steal for that rifle.

Do you want these guns because of who built them or do you like the guns? Just curious, the Miller Rifle will certainly be well made but I am not that enamored with it, but more so than the other one, but that is just choice.

Chic, it was my understyanding that we was all talking about the David Miller gun.

The other one is also a nice rifle but not in the same league. The birdseye gun should bring substantially less........

I'll admit it. I lust for a David Miller Rifle. Especially an older one built on a mauser action. I agree that there are many that are built just as nice as his and I have looked at many. there is just something about his mauser rifles that is attractive. I like his bolt handles and the shape of Curt Crum's stocks the best.

And I definitely wouldn't mind that little Polish Rifle either, although it wouldn't stay 30-06 for very long.

Chic, With exception to the extractor, I really like the rifle. Probably no were near as much as the owner or 22WRF

I doubt personally you could get me to come off the $$$ Vapodog guessed the rifle would sell for, but I'm all for taking his $1 and I know this rifle will sell for more because the "hype" surrounding the name of the guy who built it.

For some reason David Miller does a lot of his rifles that way. I have seen some of his Model 70s done the same way. No one, that I know of, has ever given a reason why he doesn't use a longer extractor. I am sure it will work the way it is but if I was spending that much money I would want a longer one for looks alone. On another note for what it's worth, Jack Belk maintained it was a mistake not to use a longer one.

I have to agree with Chic, the Miller rifle doesn't do a lot for me either. I am also sure it is well made but there are several little things I would want changed and that doesn't happen when you have Miller build you a rifle.

Good honest answer. I checked the guys other auctions and I am salivating over some of his shotguns. He has a 20 ga Browning Superposed in 20 ga and the resever has been met at $1500 +. Hate to even mention it as Jim Kobe will just buy it up.
