Anyone know anything about this tooling system? more to the point, diagnosing it? I think I need a new nut or rebuild mine.. that is, the kwik switch master nut, not the collet nut.

symptoms.. with a 5/8 or larger tool, with fairly light cuts, the nut works loose. tried a couple different tools and collet holders and collets.. same thing.

weird

thanks in advance

Jeffe,

Did you post your question on either of these sites? I find them to be a machinist's equivalent of AR. Helpful and full of advice (and BS).

it turned out to be the spring in the kwik switch nut.

process for removal and replacement, kwik switch 200

the disassemble is
turn nut until it locks, rotate spindle to expose the 2 holes near the top edge of the nut.

Remove set screw (straight slow)

depress pin to release nut (normal operating pin)

rotate nut ccw, depress pin when hits stop.

continue until nut is removed

clean out nut, replace spring

"cock" spring and plunger to "second" hole, insert (in my case) pin punch to retain plunger

screw nut CW to reinstall, depressing pin as required

run all the way to the top, back off until screw hole is displayed

reinsert and tighten screw to allow for nut clearance

test gripping

or, in other words, what I just did!!
