I seem to remember mention of converting Model 70 Safeties for use on P-14/M1917 Enfield rifles. In fact, I seem to remember mention of the fact that this topic may have been covered in Roy Dunlap's book.

Is this correct and is Dunlap's book the correct source for the technical aspects of this conversion?

I recently came into owning a Model 70 Safety and I want to convert it for an Enfield project that I have in the wings.

Before I order a copy of Dunlap's book, I want to make sure that I have the correct reference.

I have seen an Enfield with such a conversion.

try this..
take the enfield bolt apart and see if the m70 indexes on it correctly... no fireing pin or spring, just a test fit up. I do not think it will fit, as IIRC, those are differnt threads.

if it doesn't work, let me know, and I might buy it for a springfield project, as they screw into those (thanks forrest) and require grinding on the firing pin.

First off the M70 sleeve threads are a smaller diameter than the P14/17, yes they both have 10 threads per inch but that is all that is the same.

Second off the cocking piece diameters are also different betwen the two guns.

You forgot about the flats on the firing pin that has to be broacked into the sleeve as well on the Enfield.

So some major (MAJOR) reworking to get the M70 sleeve to even think about working on the Enfield.

That is why new sleeves (safties) are made.

FYI, the thread indexing of the 1903 Springfield is 180 degrees off from the pre 64 M70, but the 1903 is the same indexing as the POST 64 M70.
