I've considered buying ($900.00) and then parting out a new Columbia SC made Model 70 in a standard magnum caliber (300 win, 7mm rem etc) just to get the action. I would sell the barrel, stock and floor plate/trigger gaurd assembly (less follower and spring.). These actions seem to be made much better than the average new haven parts. My other option for my needs would be the long MRC 1999 for $585.00. My question is: How much can I expect to get for my take-off model 70 parts. I would only go with the model 70 if I can get close to the difference between my two options. Thanks for any advice. Matt FISH!! You won't break even if that's what you're goal is. You'd be better of finding a beater for $500-600. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Thats funny because I have looked closely at some of the "new" model 70s and I didn't see them as being any better in quality than some of the older classics that have the G serial number under 300,000. Some of the new ones I looked at had very loose floor metal and rather large gaps in the inletting. If it were me, I would look for an Older Barreled action that has the Boss on it. Those actions are serialed g300,000 and less, and usually bring less money because nobody wants the boss. I have seen many for sale in the $650 range.

Wow, the MRC is up to $700. Unless I was a lefty and I'm not I would cross them off my list and a get Winchester, preferably a used beater but even a new one and parted out. ______________________ Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

I have one of the Carolina M-70 rifles.....It's a very nice and beautifully functioning rifle /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I did not know about the price increase, as I only knew info from the old website. The several "Old" M70 classic's that I have seen seemed to be horribly machined. One was so bad that it made me just give up on them alltogether. Matt FISH!! You need to look at the ones that have a serial number under 300,000.
