I have picked up a vintage Lyman 57s me sight. I think this will fit my wet weather mauser. My question is will the stock need to be releaved for the sight to fit? The action is already drilled and tapped.

That's a pity, dpcd. Does it apply to all Mausers or just the Mark X?

I put a PH receiver sight on a mil-surp Mauser and found the base fitted OK, with a concave bit extending over the stock. The crossarm descended beyond the base, though, so I just cut off the bit not needed and filed beneath some that might have touched the wood. If that were possible with the Lyman, I guess Gojoe would have to judge which was more important, the wood or the vintage sight.

I'm not too sure, but it is the wet weather, leave in the truck, loan to friends rifle.

FWIW Joe I'm using SS Ruger MK IIs for bad weather guns. One in 9.3x62 and one to match it next year in 7x57.

The MKX is exactly like every other 98 Mauser ever made, with regard to a Lyman sight on the right side of the bridge. You have the choice of, sight, or, wood. Get a Williams peep that mounts on top.

I agree with Ray about aesthetics. However, I've ripped up my thumb cycling the bolt on Mausers with right mounted receiver sights. I believe dpcd's suggestion of a top mounted Williams is the most sensible solution.
