01Foreman400Taking Shine off Stock
I have a Browing A-Bolt that has a very shiney stock. I would like to take the shine off of it. What would you recommed that I do to get this done and will it harm the stock?
Thanks,
Darrell

jeffeossothat's a VERY tough finish. VERY tough... you could try rottenstone and veggie oil on a WHITE cloth. don't use a red shop rag (heh), or you can try some 800gr wet/dry... dab some vasoline on the stock to keep it "wet"

You can knock it down with 0000 steel wool. Call the Tech folks at Brownells (1-800-741-0015), they'll steer you in the right direction.

Mauser98I knocked down the gloss on a Browning BAR a few years ago by giving it a gentle rub-down with rottonstone applied with a wet(water) piece of old felt hat.
The customer was very pleased witht he result.
I would probably use oil rather than water if I were to do it again.
