Can the Arisaka safety be converted to a winchester or mauser type shroud?

Just an opinion of course but I like my type 99 and Type 38 safeties better than my Mauser, Springfield, 17 Enfield or Model 70.
I don't even mind the cock on closing, not as easy, but never notice the difference except at the range!

The Arisaka safety works perfectly without mods when scope is maouted also!

STILL just my opinion though.

TC,
i'll trade you 99s or 38s, 1 for one and complete, for p14s, p17s, 1903x, or model70s actions...

what do you say?

I can get 4 in a week or so

The first centerfire deer rifle I ever hunted was a borrowed arisaka.

the safety was so bad (putting on and off) that I would go to my stand with an unloaded rifle, load up when I was set and leave the safety off.

It shot well but other than than, I considerd it a pile of junk.

Back to the still.

My first deer rifle was a 38 carbine. I sporterized the stock and when I moved to West Teaxs had a new bolt handle and scope added. It was accurate enough since the rifle was an unfired piece my dad brought back from WWII it was in good shape. Fired a lot of rounds through it from my little LEE hand loader. The safety was a real b!tch with gloved fingers.

Then being a stupid 24 year old I got the Idea of putting a new barrel on it. Twisted the crap out of the action.

At one time I think Timiney made a trigger with side safety.

As usual just my $.02

My first centerfire bolt gun was also a bubba'd model 38. Mine was an early model with the cool spirograph machining on the safety. I always liked it, and it was not too difficult at all to move.

I'll never understand people saying that the safety on these rifles is hard to operate. I find it not only quite easy, but actually preferable to many other types of safeties. I've heard the same complaints about the Russian Nagant's safety and there I'll admit it takes a fair amount of force to pull the spring out to turn it, but it's not bad. By comparison though it makes the arisaka safety seem like a snap to operate.
