I'm about to order a Krieger barrel for a 1910 Mexican Mauser. I think I've decided what I want except for the shank diameter. The standard DIA is 1.250, is this good for a small ring Mauser or should I go with something different? Here's what I've decided to go with so far, 7X57 so the barrel will be a .284 I want to shoot 140gr bullets so I'm thinking a 1 in 9" twist. I really like the 0# feather weight contour with the .560" finish DIA moved out to 24". What do you think so far? any problems? If someone can offer any advice on the shank DIA., it would be greatly appreciated! Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

.980 small ring mauser shank, I installed a 257 barrel on my daughters and chambered it for .257 Roberts. Her mexican mauser has the knob on the cocking piece like the 03 springfield.

OK, Let me make sure I'm calling this the right thing. The measurement for "A" is what I'm looking for. Thanks!!! Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I find that diameter very easy to turn anytime and I'd get the 1.250 and turn it smaller than the ring.....You'll probably wind up at about 1.150 but get the 1.250 diameter barrel and let your smith turn it as desired.....there's nothing magik about that diameter except that it needs to shoulder on the ring. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." It don't "need" to shoulder on the ring. You probably mean the inner ring anyway and that ain't necessarily necessary. You can fit it to shoulder on the inner ring, the inner and outer ring or on the outer ring only, if you have the shank diameter large enough. OK, I guess it's easier to take off than put on. I always used a Shilen or LW barrel in the past, but really wanted to try a Krieger for this project. It's gonna be awhile before this project gets started, but with Krieger having a 3 month back log, I figured I'd go ahead and order it now. Right now nothing is avalible that I need for the project anyway. Dakota doesn't have the safety I want to use in stock and Mr. Blackburn is fresh out of triggerguards for Mexican Mausers. by normal convention "shank" refers to the threaded portion. i once did a 25-06 on a karibiner 98a action which is a standard 98 except small ring, same dia basically as the small ring 1910 mex action. the shaw bbl i put on it was barely smaller than the rcvr ring, maybe .025" on the radius at most (been yrs and i don't have any more) but was so close to the rcvr dia that it looked very sleek, just a barely perceptible step at the juncture. a 22-250 i did on a 1910 action was more conventional in appearance. have another for a 257 i haven't started but i'm wanting a featherweight contour on it so i expect to be quite a bit of difference.
