I use a combination of Forstner bits, small wood chisels, and a Dremmel 1/2" sanding drums. I got a nice set of Forstner bits at Lowes for around $25. Good Luck. Loner

I made a 250 pound wood working bench from rock hard maple and drilled holes and then chopped the mortices by hand. I almost wore my hands out THEN I got a square chisel with the drill inside fixture for the drill press, per the specialist's photo above. That is the easy way to make moritices. Now I am getting lazyier, and I clamp stock in the mill vice and mill thing out while I stand there with a shop vac.

I have bought a few "shoji" chisels from Japan woodworker. The are tools designed to cut the flat bottoms and sides of mortises and are very useful for the bottom of a recoil lug etc.. These would work great on a blind magazine bottom. Also inletting scrapers bought or made from old bandsaw blades are good for cutting accurately in tight spots.......DJ
