I was hoping there were places that rented chamber reamers and sure enough a couple clicks on google and I found some. Looks like Elk Ridge and 4D have just what I want. Has anyone rented a reamer from them? The friend who is teaching me only has a reamer for 6.5x55. He loves that round. I like it also but something in me wants either a 6.5-06 or a 338-06. I blame the medium bore forum for my desire to want the 338-06. So if you have rented from either of them share your experience.

Ones that I want to keep I buy from PTG. If it's an odd one that I don't see using again I rent from 4D. Good to work with and quick about shipping.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

I've rented from 4D a few times. Never had any problems or surprises. Always got the reamer a few days a after calling in the order.

I would probably just purchase a new reamer in the dimensions that I wanted and then you don't have to worry about getting the job finished by a certain ship back date. Then you can decide to keep the reamer or you can sell it here and won't be out any more money than if you rented a "used" reamer.

From what I hear the only drawback is that a reamer usually cuts a better chamber after cutting a few chambers-in other words the first chamber may not be the best. Still doesn't sound right. I've not cut enough to know yet. Any how that is what I would do.

And to add to my earlier statement The cost of rental with insurance, gauges and shipping ended up being near $100 and for a wee bit more you can own the reamer. Next time I'm just going to buy the reamer and gauges and be done with it.

I've used both White rock, and 4-D reamer rentals and had very good service, and results with both.

Renting a reamer & gauges from White Rock Tool will cost about $50 including shipping both ways. He charges a deposit on the tools but is very good about promptly refunding it when the tools are returned.

I've used Elk Ridge abou two dozen times, rarely a good experience. A necessary evil if you ask me. Since Fred Zeglin took over 4D and moved it from Georgia to Wyoming the rentals their have been smooth.

Does anyone have a reamer & gauges for 6.5X54 MS???

I am in NZ and the cost of buying & shipping one is getting pricy...I might as well get a Lothar Walther pre chambered barrel for that kind of money....
