Of the group I'd pick AE 38...I think it's better figured.

I think I know what you're planning and I asure you it's never cheap to build a custom. In the end the cost of a blank is peanuts.....I'd spend a couple "C" notes extra to insure that the final product had a nicely figured stock.....AE 38 is that blank IMO.

I visited him recently. Virtually everything is very wet. There is very little English. The best was picked out. He does have large quantities of trees cut which will provide some good stuff. Unfortunately, the prices were about double most of the Northern California dealers.

I am not real partial to any of those. I looked through them trying to find ones that have more matching figure. I liked AE60, AE54, AE31, AFS19, AFS17, ASPS6, TC51, TC52, TC60, TC77, TC69, AFS28 and AFS22. Hard to say if any of them are left. The note on the specials was that there were 70 left as of July 1.

Added this after seeing Thumper's post. The prices are typical of Doyle. He used to be reasonably priced. California wood is better in my opinion. He has a lot of wood from the Willamette valley and it gets too much moisture to grow dense wood.

Vapo,
I was thinking of this one for another action than the one I am getting from you. I am not much of one for a bunch of figure infact for this little project I was looking for a real striaght grain that had some contrast.
Customstox,
I thought AE42 matched the most. I thought he had quite a few one sided blanks. I liked AE31 also but, I am wanting a lighter colored stock.

I did like AE42, it made honorable mention, lol. Unfortunately, it sounds like they are gone.

What was the price, if I may ask? That is a nice one.

It was $125. If you buy 10 or more it drops to $100.
