Guys,
I have a wsm length browning white gold medallion action. The rifle was basically destroyed when it was backed over by a large truck. Barrel and stock are toast, action OK. I've recently been told that a browning action can't be re-barreled. I find this hard to believe.
Can any of you gurus help out a poor ignorant soul.

As stated, may be possible to rebarrel, but was informed sometime ago that the machine threads were changed by Browning from something in the mid 20's tpi to something over 30 tpi. Major mfg. of barrels attempted to rebarrel and ended up having to purchase customer new Browning rifle. Won't attempt to do them anymore. Galling is the key word here.

The barrel stub can be machined out of the receiver and the receiver threads can be recut to eliminated any galling. Install a new barrel with smooth clean threads and anti-seize compound.
If you are talking about a stainless receiver and a stainless barrel always put them together with some form of anti-sieze or lubrication and don't tighten more than necessary unless you want a nightmare.

I've done a couple, but I make it clear to the customer that I will not be responsible for damage to the action caused by overtightened stainless steel barrels. I made a wrench to fit the A-bolt and so far haven't had much trouble pulling one of their barrels.
