If a barrel is on an enfield action, could it be moved to a sprinfield action? is there enough meat to turn it down, cut new threads?

thanks.

While it can be done, origional M1917 in good condition are pretty scarce. You might consider getting an origional Springfield barrel or an aftermarket barrel. Bill

Nah, no original stuff here. I have a 1917 Remington with a 26" douglas pipe chambered in 35 whelen ackley improved. it performs well, but seems wasteful combination. I've thought about running it up to 358 norma mag. I have a 308 norma on a springfield though, so thought about matching them up, a springfield in 358.

just something I mull over.

The simple answer is yes, there is plenty of metal in the Enfield threads to turn it down to Springfield threads. Minor diameter of the Enfield threads is 1.085", major diameter of the S/field is 1.040", 45 thou to play with.

+1
Red, it's not a direct swap however as the threads are different.
