I have an NEF Handi-Rifle with two barrels, a 30-30 and a 20 guage. I know I've seen reference to installing a centerfire rifle barrel into a shot gun barrel. I'm thinking the 20 gauge should become a 22 Hornet. Has anyone done this?

A good gunsmith could do this by cutting the barrel off and making it a mono block or simply lining the barrel. Either way it will be way more expensive than just buying a new barrel from NEF. They will want to fit it to your action however, which may be a problem considering where you live.

It would probably be cheaper to send it to the factory and just buy another barrel.

I was thinking of lining it. I will do it myself as I have rebarreled quite a few bolt actions.I can't see it being all that difficult. A few years back I read an article outlining the making of a double rifle from a Browning SXS shotgun. The procedure would be similiar I would think, albeit half as much work. I think I can machine the barrel to fit the 20 guage chamber and install a nut on the muzzle end to hold it in place, maybe a nut/compensator combo? The extractor may be the toughest part of the job.Surely there is info somewhere on the web?

Do you think if you bought one of rifles you could re-barrel it to 348 Winchester?

This guy will sell you a 22 Hornet insert for a 20 gauge:

For 10" length $65.00 plus $6.00 S & H
