To your knowledge and belief, has any manufacturing company involved in the custom gun profession offered sets of clamps to be used to avoid drilling for scope mounting purposes?

In other words, has anyone made a thin metal set of clamps that can be fitted and installed on a set of scope bases to hold the bases where they need o be without drilling in the receiver?

Are you thinking about straps that go around the action?

There are a number of issues that come to mind:

The stock would have to be inlet for the bands

The bands may have to be inlet around the recoil lug up front and the trigger assembly in the rear. It may also interfere with the safety lever, bolt release, etc.

The recoil is axial so the bands will try to slip forward at the top.

It will probably mar the finish of the action.

I’m trying to envision how this would work. Can you share a diagram you’ve thought up?

I can only think of specialty mounts for "no-drill" guns, like the mounts that SK makes.

Here's one for a Lee Enfield. ring goes around the front receiver.

I have made several sets of mounts that clamp around the barrel on Martini-actioned rifles and for mounting scout scopes on bolt action rifles. It works fine, but going around the action seems to me liely to make bedding rather more complicated.

I thought this idea was kind of what the Ruger scope mount were intended as?

Utilize areas on the gun to hold the scope mount? Yes, I get that Ruger milled slots in the receiver for it- I think there are a few military mounts designed this way.

I think there used to be some that clamped around or on sight bases for some things.
