I am interested in trying a peep or ghost ring sight for a DG rifle. I have heard that some smiths make such a sight that attaches to scope bases. Can some of you give me the names of makers and reccomendations please? In fact it does not even have to attach to scope bases just be of top quality. Thanks in advance.

Mufasa, Here's a fairly decent one, from XS sight systems, that won't cost an arm and a leg http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.as...e=WEAVER+BACKUP+BASE or do a product search for this brownell's part number 006-105-010 Brockman makes a darn good one, too. jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? For aperture sights that attach to Ruger, Weaver, and EAW scope ring bases, see New England Custom Guns: http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com --- Eric Ching "The pen is mightier than the sword...except in a swordfight."

Slingster, I have the NECG aperature sight for the Weaver base, a client gave it to me. I cannot recommend it for a DG rifle. It is a very solid well made item, but it is just to big and blocks out the view of everything except the small hole through the aperature. A DG rifle needs a ghost ring, that blocks out the view of almost nothing.

Maybe, but maybe your "small hole just needs enlarging, and with both eyes open (until the last fraction of a second anyway) nothing should then be blocked. Couldn't be worse than express sights using one eye only could it. ?? JL.

Even with the screw in aperature removed the hole is way to small and with both eyes open, its the left eye that wants to take over since it has a good view and the right eye is trying to look throught this tiny hole in the wall! Ghost ring is the way to go.

Mufasa Just got a catalog from XS. Wish I had bought it instead of NECG. If you want to see them let me know and I will drop it by. Semper Fi WE BAND OF BUBBAS STC Hunting Club

Mufasa, Usualy a peep sight (like this one: Rigby type) is supposed to be used for medium/long range precise shots. If what you want is ment for quick shots at close range, then the XS system is the way to go. I am using an XS ghost ring on Marlin 45/70 and I love it. I have a NECG receiver sight mounted on my Ruger M-77/44 Magnum bolt action rifle. It is working out just fine however I did have to install a higher front sight. I had a local Gunsmith install a Williams Firesite front. Works just as good as a low powered scope. Also have a T/C peep sight on my T/C Black Diamond M/L. Last Deer season I "flatlined" two deer with it in Ky. David

Your probably right. But again I just screwed my "drilled-out" aperature out, and the "ghost ring" was vertually invisable. . . In dull conditions it would be. Could see all of Australia, too much in fact. But have you ever seen a sight system to cause so much angst with new users? But I've even had one dork couldn't use/see through a 4x scope to see a Buff at about 40yards!! Out in the open even. JOhn L>
