What kind of price is involved in taking an M17 Enfield, putting a cock on opening kit, 3 position safety and getting rid of the ugly dog leg bolt, replacing with a straight bolt, bottom metal and finally getting it to feed the 404 Jeffery?

Reason why I ask is I have seen a M17 Enfield in 30-06, with the barrel worn out and stock pretty shabby for $300.00 NZ.

This rifle has been drilled and tapped for a scope.

She was only the Fish Mongers daughter. But she lay on the slab and said 'fillet'

You could save a bit by skipping the cock on opening & 3 position safety. The bolt handle is not a tough one for a competent gunsmith, but you'll still want the bolt face opened out & an enlarged mag box with maybe some attention to the feed rails. Sorry I can't help with costs, its ages since I had any of this done. If you're still set on the three positon safety drop me a PM, I've had one for ages now & won't be using it. I've just spotted this thread further down, a lot of stuff in it is pertinent to what you're looking to do.

To do the receiver right, with custom bottom metal, mag box, follower, feed rail mods, surface grind the receiver, custom scope mounts, bolt handle, bolt mod., 3 POS safety, and trigger will be right at $2000.

Buy a CZ 550 or something similar and have enough money left over for a nice piece of wood.

If a gent has the machinery and is capable of doing the work himself, can be a fun project. Otherwise, to do it right, $2000 or so as Butch said is entry level cash to get the job done.
