| There's a fairly good article in this months "American Rifleman" about the model 70 and it addresses exactly what the difference between controlled feed and controlled push feed. |

| blue, The .250 Savage is .155" longer then the WSSM's. You would have to load your 250's to a max length of 2.360". You will have to work with the feeding also. Because the WSSM system is designed for the 'fat' cartridges, you will have to deal with the magazine, magazine follower and the 'feed lips' in the receiver.
The .250 Savage requires a standard bolt face. A new bolt would be needed. If you want to use a cut down a CRF bolt, you would have to modify the right side bolt channel of the receiver to allow clearence for the extractor at the rear bridge, and even more so in the front bridge to allow for the extractor to jump over a chambered round.
Hope this helps. Headache |

| Blue - The "Gun Digest Book of Riflesmithing", by Jack Mitchell, has an illustrated narrative of shortening a Model 70 by cutting and welding. It's worth a read, if you intend to do this. |

| I tried the very project you are going to try now. It will be very expensive. My rifle is on the original Kimber 84 action in a custom stock by Davenport. I still have feeding/ejection/accuracy issues and have spent oodles of money to make it right. The classic short action is smaller than the Kurtz Mauser action that was one of the premier actions for that caliber. You might rethink your options. I think a 250 Savage with the bullet out seated to 2.8 inches would be a very potent round . |
