Several friends have told me that one of the recent loading manuals used a Savage for the load work for the .338 Lapua cartridge.
I'd like to buy some bolt heads for this cartridge. Anybody know where they might be for sale?
Midway and Brownells do not show them but have all of the other sizes.

thanks,

Jay

I called Sharpshooter Supply. They said that Savage did NOT make a bolt head for the .338 Lapua. Sharpshooter sells modified bolt heads for PPC or 338 Lapua for $75. The parts are about $20 from Midway or Brownells and the work required is pretty basic.

I will call Savage, though, to be sure.

thanks for the info,

Jay

You might want to start with a Savage rifle set up for a RUM cartridge. Those have a thicker barrel shank due to the fatter cases. That would make the rifle conversion to 338 Lapua much safer.

The bolt heads are needed to take the easy way out to make a prototype bolt for a new, custom receiver.
I didn't know that Savage used different receivers for the U'mags.

Thanks,

Jay
